Something was wrong.

(y/n) was withdrawn, quiet even.

Yes, Erwin knew that something was tormenting her.

The way she would stare absently, eyes unfocused and glued to nothing.

Something was bothering her.

Erwin had tried to speak with (y/n) to pry out what was wrong but was only met with hostility.

"I'm fine Erwin." short and clipped she brushed him off.

When had this started?

Maybe it was that night he'd reached out to her in bed, she'd flinched. Surprised by the action Erwin's arm froze in mid air, it was not like he was trying to make a pass, he only wanted to pull her closer to him, just like always.

"Not tonight Erwin." she'd grumbled, creating further distance between them. The sheets dipping into the space created Erwin rolled away from her, presuming she was merely tired.

No, it was more than that.

(y/n) brushed him off again slapping away his hands when he'd gone to hug her from behind while she washed the dishes.

"I'm busy Erwin." she snapped rolling her shoulders to shrug him off.

What had he done?

What was going on?

"(y/n)?" trying to gain her attention during dinner, Erwin watched her push the dinner around the plate, uninterested.

"What?" a snap answered him, silencing his attempt to start a conversation.

Erwin's stomach knotted, his own appetite fading "I'm going to bed." he'd responded, pushing out the chair roughly he departed the room.

In that brief moment, he thought he saw (y/n) go to reach for him on passing, thinking better of the action she'd turned away "Fine." was all he got in response.

Was there someone else?

No. Erwin couldn't even begin to conceive the idea.

Erwin loved her, and she him. Right?

Tonight, he wasn't going to accept any excuses.

Standing in the living room door he watched (y/n) chew away at her lip, she'd been doing it often lately that the skin looked raw.

Dragging her eyes away from the wall she blinked, she looked incredibly tired "Yes Erwin?"

Gathering his courage, fearing the answer Erwin took up the seat opposite her own "Is there someone else."

A heavy silence filled the air, the clock ticking upon the mantelpiece was louder than normal, counting away the seconds to the grand revealing of the answer he'd sought for weeks.

What was taking so long? Were his fears justified, had she found someone else?

Meeting his gaze head on a slow smile curved her lips "Yes." she answered simply, boldly.

At that moment, Erwin swore his heart stopped.

"Two lines."

The words leaving (y/n)'s mouth made no sense.

"Two lines, Erwin." her voice was quiet, gentle and Erwin was confident he'd picked up fear in there.

Confused he stared blankly at the item grasped within her shaking hand.

"Two lines,"
he repeated a smile drifting across his lips.

In (y/n)'s hand, she grasped a test

Indeed, there were two lines.
Not all is as it seems...
